Meryl Prettyman

I am a movement artist and divide my time between Berlin and my hometown New York. My activities are dance performance, choreographing and teaching classical Pilates. My dance training began at the age of 6 with Haitian dance and classical ballet, which continued through to my Bachelor’s degree at the Institute of Arts in California.

In my 2nd year I injured myself so badly that walking was no longer possible for me, this is where I first came into contact with the classical Pilates method, which made it possible for me to walk again without pain after 3 months. After 6 months I could dance. I was so impressed with Pilates that I decided to become a Pilates teacher myself. My trainings were with Ron Fletcher in Los Angeles, then in New York at The Pilates Studio and in Berlin I assisted with the Peak Pilates training at the Pilates Center. In 2000 I opened my Focus Pilates home studio.

I have been teaching Pilates Yoga and Posture School at Senso Studio since 2014, host of Alycea Ungaro’s Real Pilates Teacher Training, and successfully completed my further training there last year.

My goal as a Pilates teacher is to promote and support the client’s well-being in their own body.
