Pilates instructors are constantly approached by clients who suffer from back pain. These can be either non-specific problems or specific back conditions that are identified during physical therapy. Here, herniated discs are the most common.

The goal of this workshop is to discuss the anatomy of the spine and understand the various degrees of disc herniation, including causes, symptoms and treatment.

Following the power point presentation, participants will witness the modifications required for Pilates on the mat.
Similar modifications will be discussed on other Pilates equipment.

The workshop does not qualify Pilates instructors to diagnose or work with acute back problems. Clients recovering from a back condition need permission from their physician or physical therapist to exercise.
